Question 1

Is a UW smart meter installation free?

Accepted Answer

Smart-meter eligibility, any cost, and the booking process depend on your address and current supplier terms. Confirm the applicable details before booking.

Question 2

How long does a UW smart meter installation take?

Accepted Answer

The current supplier will confirm appointment availability, expected duration, any interruption to supply and any safety or access requirements for your address.

Question 3

What is a SMETS2 smart meter?

Accepted Answer

SMETS2 is the second-generation UK smart meter standard. Unlike SMETS1 meters, a SMETS2 meter remains 'smart' if you switch energy supplier — it communicates over the national DCC network, so your readings are still sent automatically regardless of who supplies your energy.

Question 4

My old smart meter went dumb when I switched — will UW fix it?

Accepted Answer

Utility Warehouse can enrol SMETS2 meters via the DCC, restoring smart functionality. SMETS1 meters may need replacing with a new SMETS2 device — UW can advise you based on your meter serial number.
