What is the Ofgem Price Cap? (2026 Guide)

The Ofgem energy price cap limits the unit rate and standing charge that suppliers can charge domestic customers on standard variable tariffs. It does not cap your total bill — you still pay for the energy you use.

As of Q3 2026 (from 1 July 2026), the price cap is set at £1,663 per year for a typical household. Ofgem reviews the cap every quarter.
